As the core objective of the Trust is to extend financial assistance to poor and needy students in connection with their education, Prachesta has been very active in this area right from inception.
The Trust has identified academically bright students from various schools located in Maharashtra, Assam and West Bengal and have extended financial assistance to these students.
Based on applications/recommendations, the students are identified and selected by a Committee of three Trustee members, which evaluates the eligibility of the beneficiaries based on a pre-determined criteria agreed upon by the Trustees. The criteria inter alia includes the family income of the student (not more than Rupees Eight Thousand per month), academic performance (not less than 70% in the immediately preceding academic session), extra-curricular activities, etc.
It is important to mention that we have maintained consistency in tracking the progress of these students during this period and we aspire to support them until they complete their education, which enables them to make a living for themselves. Further, in consonance with the Government of India’s stellar initiative of “Beti Padao Beti Bachao”, we have also tried to focus on education and support for the girl child in particular.
In addition, we have adopted 20 tribal children from the outskirts of Mumbai to help them pursue education till plus 2 level.
The number of students to whom financial assistance has been provided by PRACHESTA since inception are as under:
